Easy ways to keep your immunity strong in the cooler months
Mahatma Gandhi said: “It is health that is the real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.”
So true! And don’t we all realise this when we get sick and can’t go about our everyday life and responsibilities? A strong immune system is worth its weight in gold this time of year when it’s winter in the Southern Hemisphere. Having a strong immune system means that even when you are exposed to any sort of virus your body’s natural defences can work to fight it off with minimal impact on your general health.
Here are our top 5 favourite and easy ways to keep your health on track this time of year:
Yes! Make use of the longer nights by keeping your body charged and ready to tackle everyday.
- Fresh Air & Sunshine
When the sun is out get out wrap up warm and get some cool clean air into your lungs. Sunshine is a rarity this time of the year so make the most of it when you see it and spend some time outdoors.
Keep active! Walk or run, go to the gym or work out at home. Just keep your body moving. A winter walk on the beach doubles as physical exercise and is great for mental health as well. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water.
- Eat more dense vegetables
Ensure your diet is high in fresh in-season fruit and vegetables. Soups, stews, stir-fries, roasts… the choice of healthy, warming winter dishes is endless.
- Up your supplement intake:
Add natural immune boosting supplements to your diet. Our favourite, of course, is Bee Pollen - nature’s superfood that packs a mighty punch when it comes to helping us stay healthy. We also love Zinc, Turmeric, Propolis and Manuka Honey. The traditional ‘hot toddy’ lemon and honey drink is still a winner when your nose is blocked and your throat is scratchy.
We have a range of immune boosting products available, all using natural pure ingredients made right here in NZ.
