Manuka Honey is a unique type of honey, native to New Zealand, produced by bees that pollinate a shrub known as Manuka (Leptospermum scoparium).
What distinguishes Manuka Honey from other types of honey is the presence of methylglyoxal (MGO). The higher the concentration of MGO, the greater the properties.
The Unique Manuka Factor (UMF) grading system appraises natural markers found in Manuka Honey and assures purity and quality. The honey's classification reflects the presence of 3 distinct compounds found in Manuka Honey: methylglyoxal, dihydroxyacetone, leptospermum. The higher the Unique Manuka Factor (UMF), the greater the benefits of the honey.
